00:00:00: Hi movie breakers!
00:00:01: We're in Cesme on the beautiful Turkish coast, In The Burning Sun.
00:00:05: But we are not getting into a sweat.
00:00:08: and we that's me And the Festivals Artistic Director Ferdinando Madaloni who is now telling you about this film event I personally had never heard of but it has just been born last year.
00:00:20: It called International Gastronomy Film Festival Sounds tasty!
00:00:34: We're
00:00:35: just fresh off Cannes, which is a huge event.
00:00:38: And now we are here and everything's in the first stages of the festival journey that every festival takes.
00:00:44: So what inspired you to create this event?
00:00:47: My last short film The Name Was A Scene Naples At Then Not Die.
00:00:52: It was a short film with lots of A-words in it.
00:00:58: Because of the food, don't destroy one city and I am sure that the food unites people.
00:01:04: Don't divide people.
00:01:05: And in this moment on my life... ...I want to understand everything i eat!
00:01:10: I won't understand all process for cooking.. ..and when they invite me in this festival.... ...i say ok we put gastronomy at center of the script.
00:01:23: All script rules are twenty minutes.
00:01:25: Gastronomy & Life must connect.
00:01:45: Having a film festival that combines short films and gastronomy sounds pretty challenging in terms of funding.
00:01:51: Was it hard to get the money?
00:01:56: Yashimkaya are in the organization, but I know that there were a lot of problems to organize one festival.
00:02:05: In which the competition is only part of the festival after they're all the food you can touch with your hands.
00:02:12: outside There's the books.
00:02:14: Gastronomy is the center of the Festival.
00:02:17: But at this moment in all over the world cinema has big problem To find sponsor and really producer.
00:02:25: This festival not only happening in Turkey, it's also happening in London and as I heard wants to spread to other cities.
00:02:32: Could you explain a little bit the concept behind
00:02:47: that?
00:02:49: I know this is a dream, but i think we can realize.
00:02:58: Lots of film festivals attract their audience via star power But short films are commonly not associated with big names.
00:03:05: Do you have Big Names?
00:03:06: So do want to change that?
00:03:07: or how are your gonna deal with the challenge?
00:03:09: No no no...I don't interest Big Name!
00:03:11: I know it's a challenge..but I'm interested in the story.
00:03:15: For me as a jury member A story after If there is Robert De Niro Of There Is One Unknown Actor.
00:03:22: I Don't Interest The Story.
00:03:24: The director is not Scorsese but maybe in the short film really, really great to tell a story In twenty minutes.
00:03:32: Not running because A lot of people think that the minute you have To run into arrive at twenty minutes.
00:03:38: Twenty's alot.
00:03:39: Usually they put one five fifteen Minutes.
00:03:41: We have another film here Three point four kilograms.
00:03:45: It doesn't arrive till end.
00:03:47: But this story Is really great And I say every day thank You to the Director.
00:03:52: She live.
00:03:53: now After I have seen the film, we write each other.
00:04:22: together.
00:04:23: I think that one festival needs minimum five years, my experience maybe next year?
00:04:30: i don't know if am here or not...I go in another festival..i use this but minimum five-years and after seem like in italy visionicorte is twenty years!
00:04:42: And me as a member of giuria.
00:04:44: at the first , i didn't understand anything as giuria.
00:04:47: ..i give rates.
00:04:49: ...but now i see NOT ONE TIME THE SHOW three times.
00:04:53: Every, every film.
00:04:54: because the first time is emotional and maybe you give second-time... You know this story!
00:05:00: And you see the actors, the director of the story.
00:05:03: The photography eye has been important.
00:05:06: The third is for me give the rate.
00:05:10: Third, every short film for me is best.
00:05:13: I hope that we grow up together with this festival.
00:05:16: This is because i ask to everybody when it's finished what do you think?
00:05:20: What did u like?
00:05:21: Because there are no schools how to create one film festival.
00:05:26: We're normal people and i think gastronomy and life have a lot of things.
00:05:56: Short films are commonly not the usual cinematic releases.
00:06:00: How can the audience see maybe a film after festival is
00:06:05: done?
00:06:05: to go on the cinema, ON THE CINEMA.
00:06:10: This is important but my dream it that only one cinema for short film One big screen is a great satisfaction.
00:06:20: But I am really afraid because when you are director maybe your wrong something and you understand what you have A BIG SCREEN When You See Your Film.
00:06:29: Cinema in Italy never show the short film.
00:06:33: Sometimes before one famous film they put something.
00:06:38: but I don't like because it's only when you abandon the play before The Famous Singer.
00:06:43: everybody go for this.
00:06:45: For The Famus Singer, i want and i dream one cinema only for short film.
00:06:50: so are there deals happening with cinemas to maybe put at least Something from the competition on the big screen?
00:06:57: Because At the moment we only see a projected here onsite in Chesma.
00:07:02: yes
00:07:02: sometimes They Are Only The Projects And Sometimes You and when you are a member of Giulia, You must understand that this can be a film.
00:07:10: If you give the awards maybe This is the gasoline to continue.
00:07:14: I do not agree That short films are short movies!
00:07:17: This another category.
00:07:19: It's very difficult because you have no money.
00:07:22: In Spain they have association for the short films.
00:07:24: in Italy we Have something that gives some money but Not enough money.
00:07:30: When i win ten years ago one in Empuja Ex-Equo with American director, he asked me how much is your budget?
00:07:37: I say please before you.
00:07:39: He said the budget as a. I prefer don't tell You because they have budgets that we cannot help.
00:07:45: this is not A little film but sometimes from one short film can be our very great film.
00:07:50: both
00:07:50: Film and food are also political issues.
00:07:53: Do you see this event also has a political event or Morris entertainment.
00:07:57: One time only one-time.
00:07:58: political is outside.
00:08:00: We don't say anything about what the bads political.
00:08:03: Every day I come from Italy.
00:08:06: Everyday we speak about political and after that, where are the results of this?
00:08:11: About cinema because cinema is moment for true cinema.
00:08:16: We're really free!
00:08:18: I don't belong to no one party in Italy.
00:08:20: Just once time when i go to the cinema... ...I want to speak about politics but not about political people.
00:08:26: They invite all my days.. ..I wanna talk about problems with food of this.
00:08:34: what is that inside with it?
00:08:36: and we die for me.
00:08:37: This is politics.
00:08:38: So please, this is political not the story of the great people they fight.
00:08:43: We must think the cinema as one mirror For all People Of The World Not Italian German All-People!
00:08:50: We have all the same problems.
00:08:51: It's very long discussion.
00:08:53: I don't want to bore you but Cinema can do a lot when we get up in the morning first i drink meal i drink my espresso.
00:09:01: Do You Know What Is In Their Espresso?
00:09:02: which?
00:09:03: how much coffee there is.
00:09:05: Oh, if I see one short film about this that analyzes what i am drinking... ...I like very much!
00:09:10: For me it's politics.
00:09:11: How do you see the festivals place in the international festival Swear and do co-operate with other Film Festivals?
00:09:17: Yes usually we do it in Gaeta, this visionic porte.
00:09:22: We do it on October after Vinais but now have another project in cinema And want to shoot my first short film in Turkey.
00:09:31: I have the story, this story unite Italy and Turkey.
00:09:35: It's a love story And i want to shoot it.
00:09:38: This is i think January-February.
00:09:40: i start shooting.
00:09:40: You
00:09:40: already said you don't really know if your gonna be here in future but let just assume will be.
00:09:45: What would be your wish for next edition?
00:09:47: If they like Miss Gulperr and Miss Yashimkaya and all the organization wants me... I wanna take these experience Maybe change something from this But still idk if they call me or not.
00:10:15: If
00:10:15: our listeners want to come next year, can they just
00:10:21: Really, I don't know if this...I like this location.
00:10:24: I pray they come in this location because for me it's very important that cinema is there and food here!
00:10:32: I smell and i enter there..and follow the story And maybe I feel other perfume.
00:10:39: For me its' very
00:10:40: important!!
00:10:41: I pray that they remain in these locations Especially Cesme Ismer Because we are in Esmer Cesme & Alacati.
00:10:47: This part of Turkey I love really really a lot, not only for the sea but also people.
00:10:53: Thank you so much for this interview Ferdinando Madaloni.
