00:00:00: Here we are still at Locarno to talk about.

00:00:02: Ich is ein anderer, it's a new film by Felix Rando and I'm here now with the main actor Klaas Bang!

00:00:08: Hi Klaass!

00:00:10: So that was really impressive.

00:00:31: And I had the feeling all of those people who were there, it wasn't... People weren't running off to the loo or getting drinks.

00:00:39: They seemed quite focused and concentrated and devoted to watching a movie.

00:00:43: so It seemed good!

00:00:45: That's

00:00:45: great too.

00:00:45: here at Piazza Grande is an amazing place.

00:00:47: So many people will tell me they just come to Lucara To see a film in Piazzo Grande.

00:00:51: Wow

00:00:51: okay yeah but it was something special.

00:00:54: I've never once before been at an outdoor screening house in London for the square.

00:01:01: when that came out, I think it was in Seventeen and that had sort of same feel a little bit but not nearly as many people.

00:01:08: So this is really something else.

00:01:10: The film you are showing also has been something else?

00:01:14: Did YOU know that character Felix Kressen did you end up playing?

00:01:18: No!

00:01:19: You mean if i knew about him before... If you have never heard of him no..I found out about him when Felix approached me.

00:01:28: It's taken a long time to get this financed and, be honest that I thought couple of times it was never going happen.

00:01:36: For some reason its really difficult for the finances together.

00:01:40: And i heard yesterday one thing is how we portray christened character that is Himmler.

00:01:47: There are things with German funding there.

00:01:51: no way around the Nazis.

00:01:53: they were all swine And so you can't.

00:01:58: they are really reluctant to finance something that shows them in perhaps a slightly different like.

00:02:04: there's no doubt about That.

00:02:06: this guy was one of the biggest mass murderers big One of the bigger criminals ever and we're not Questioning that in the movie.

00:02:13: This is a movie About him, and the character that I play.

00:02:16: who?

00:02:16: Is his mother.

00:02:17: So We get it to be with Himmler In A quite Different Way Than We've Ever Seen Before Cuz.

00:02:22: He'S Not Really.

00:02:23: It's Not About all These atrocities I mean, it's about something else.

00:02:28: The scenes with me and him are obviously me giving them a massage And then we sort of talk about stuff at the same time You know.

00:02:36: so that was very long answer to your question.

00:02:38: So i think That is one Of the reasons why this has been difficult To finance It or thats At least what one of the producers said in the press conference yesterday.

00:02:48: One other reason Why This Is controversial?

00:02:51: Its sort of set In stone how A Nazi is presented the ones that were like at the top of them.

00:02:57: So you can't really start doing so much else, and made this a little bit difficult because obviously we're with Himmler in another way on this movie.

00:03:06: Did you also research a lot on Himmle?

00:03:09: Because he had played character who was... And there's probably no doubt about it that however many people Kirsten might have saved or not safe He very close to Himmel knew him well.

00:03:19: It is hard to find out exactly what is actually at the core of this.

00:03:24: I did not research so much on, I did a lot of research on Kaston and off course his relationship to Himmler as well.

00:03:31: It's quite contradictory.

00:03:33: what's out there?

00:03:34: it seems that are accounts of This And This happening?

00:03:38: Then There Are Accounts That Are Saying Exactly The Opposite Thing.

00:03:42: But i think thats also been the objective Of The Movie.

00:03:46: We've Used This To Sort Of Move Into The Character He Definitely Wants To Be Seen in a quite specific way.

00:03:53: I think after the war, he felt that he didn't get enough credit for what he had done.

00:03:58: That's perhaps the biggest mistake He made...that he started exaggerating his effort In order to get people's attention.

00:04:04: i think..in this autobiography it is quite obvious that he is lying or at least manipulating the truth To make himself look better.

00:04:14: If we hadn't done that We wouldn't have had a movie!

00:04:16: I think thats an interesting point.

00:04:18: if you just found peace within yourself knowing I have done good, i've actually managed through influencing Himmler.

00:04:28: people would of died had it not been for me if he'd just known that in his heart gone about his business.

00:04:33: then we wouldn't know its only because he is probably vanity right?

00:04:38: do you want to sort of present yourself in a certain way?

00:04:41: or the world see this?

00:04:44: and therefore he started making up, he started doctoring the numbers a little bit.

00:04:48: And that's when he became controversial... ...and obviously he was seeking the Pitt Nobel Peace Prize.. ..And I think he actually was up for it.

00:04:56: like five six seven times Never got through these things.

00:04:59: We sort of have a movie because now we can start to look into what this guy is trying to present himself as?

00:05:06: What Is The Truth?

00:05:08: There's no way of knowing.

00:05:09: really.

00:05:10: That has been my objective in the film where you can look at it from here, and it'll look like that.

00:05:16: and that will be the truth.

00:05:18: Or you can look at it from here, And YOU WILL SEE SOMETHING ELSE!

00:05:45: trying to achieve something, are they trying to sort of like antagonize somebody with it or so?

00:05:51: It's the irony of the abundance of news.

00:05:54: In the past, when there was so little news at least everybody believed in the same lies.

00:05:58: now we all believe different lies and different truths therefore always arguing with each other which one is best truth or lie?

00:06:06: We might be wrong!

00:06:08: And I think that challenging thing obviously to try and navigate but i should do it because that will sort of censor into ourselves.

00:06:16: And now I've chosen that this seems to be what I can sort of relate.

00:06:26: It's challenging, but it is demanded of us.

00:06:28: we do it and question whatever is presented as a truth... ...to find out at the core about who is behind it?

00:06:37: What are they trying to

00:06:38: achieve?".

00:06:50: different figures since the movie is called I as somebody else.

00:06:54: That's interesting, i don't think i've thought about it as two different guys but there's no doubt they're something that thats really important to remember.

00:07:02: ,i discussed this also a couple of years ago when i did a series for apple The New Look About Coco Chanel and Christian Dior playing sort-of the guy that lured Coco Chanel over to the nazi side And i was talking with Shulia Binash about This A Lot.

00:07:17: Who Played Coco Chanel?

00:07:18: It Is One Thing Thats Important.

00:07:19: remember, there is an innocence in this guy.

00:07:22: In the beginning...in the sense that in nineteen thirty-nine when he was summoned to The SS headquarters..the war wasn't on yet!

00:07:29: The concentration camps were not

00:07:31: ON!!

00:07:32: It was.

00:07:32: obviously.

00:07:33: if you got summoned to go To the sss headquarters You would have to do it because otherwise it might Have severe repercussions for you and your family.

00:07:41: So I think....The Guy That Is in the main story of the movie which is on a train Which is an interview On A Train looking back on those years with Himmler.

00:07:52: There's some pubs' innocence is the wrong word, but there's like that understanding we have today of what happened during World War II.

00:08:01: It's

00:08:01: pretty hard to predict at six million people will be killed.

00:08:05: That is one thing.

00:08:06: I mean every all the atrocities that we know about today and has made this a quite black-and-white for us.

00:08:13: That is the truth that we have all come to accept now, and rightly so.

00:08:19: But in nineteen thirty-nine All of these atrocities had not started to happen yet.

00:08:23: They hadn't started go to war with almost ALL THE WORLD!

00:08:27: they HADN'T STARTED THE CONCENTRATION GAME.

00:08:29: THEY HADNT STARTED SYSTEMATICALLY EXECUTING PEOPLE FOR THEIR BELIEFS OR THEIR RELIGION OR ALL THESE THINGS THAT WE KNOW IN RETROSPECT WHEN FELIX CASTON STEPS INTO THE EQUALIFIES OF Heinrich Himmler on that day In nineteen thirty nine HE HAD NO knowledge of.

00:08:45: There was like the fear that if you did not go there, he might end up getting beheaded or thrown in prison forever.

00:08:51: so there was a massive fear.

00:08:53: I think all these things we know today and they came to know about during the war.

00:08:58: i think it's important to take them into consideration when u ask this question.

00:09:02: is that two different guys?

00:09:09: that he will not lie, and that he'll try to work against.

00:09:12: The fact that he did help people is undisputed.

00:09:15: How many?

00:09:15: Is the question And thats also kind of interesting I know it's been taken out our mo because we had a piece of dialogue with Valerie and me where she says So what would justify a membership Of the essence?

00:09:27: One life saved Two lives and then twenty two hundred.

00:09:30: one hundred thousand What's the number?

00:09:32: That is impossible to answer.

00:09:34: Nobody can answer this question And perhaps him being clever and you know, aren't asking a question that can be answered.

00:09:41: It's of course him trying to get out the trap he is now in.

00:09:45: it has been revealed.

00:09:46: He was member of The SS which he sort of denies for very long time its being revealed.

00:09:51: And Now hes like yes But That Was The Only Way Of Being Close To Himla!

00:09:55: And That Is The Only way I Could Actually Try And Do Something About This Whole Thing.

00:10:01: How Can You Put A Prize On That?

00:10:02: So i think there are so many really interesting issues here and themes.

00:10:08: I can't play a theme or an idea, or an issue.

00:10:11: I can embody your character at whatever scenes and situations we have.

00:10:15: that will bring out perhaps these names.

00:10:17: But on the day it is.

00:10:18: what would i do?

00:10:18: So to come back to this question... We sort of work with him having a nervousness.

00:10:24: Am I walking into Alliance Den here?

00:10:26: What Will Happen When I Do What I Don't Want To Do Because he doesn't want me going to the SS headquarters?

00:10:32: There's nothing to suggest That He Was A Nazi Sympathiser Up.

00:10:36: Until That Point He was not a member of the party.

00:10:38: So I think he was quite reluctant to go there, but as he says in the movie You've heard stories about what would happen if you didn't.

00:10:45: Yeah And he always looked for high-end clients and top Nazis at that time when The Party is rising and gaining power are definitely High end Clients.

00:10:55: yeah totally yay absolutely

00:10:57: so maybe he did Not so much care About their politics But he cared about their status.

00:11:01: he came out yet all this

00:11:02: power that put destroy it.

00:11:05: That's a valid

00:11:06: In favor of him.

00:11:07: Absolutely,

00:11:07: I think that is... That may very well be true because there was definitely that thing where he- Very

00:11:12: ambitious!

00:11:13: Yeah

00:11:14: yeah and had something with high end clients.

00:11:18: He absolutely did.

00:11:18: And at that point he didn't know they were mad killers

00:11:23: Which actually could also an argument for wanting to go there.

00:11:27: You don't have a reason so fearful or morally appalled by somebody?

00:11:35: He does say in the movie, and I think there was a thing of you know that You had heard stories about people going there And never coming back out or refusing to go There.

00:11:44: Then getting into trouble.

00:11:46: so it's all speculation.

00:11:48: But but i think what we operated on Was that they were definitely before an after where he threw Out The Wall Of course foundout stuff.

00:11:56: That is What We've All Come To Know Now?

00:12:04: And what he then went and did was rather than just know that I've actually saved lives.

00:12:10: He started to make up stories that sort of look better than he thought it did.

00:12:15: And last question, because I see again we have to cut it short.

00:12:18: so if people saw you on the screen in this role what would your hope are take

00:12:30: away from these?

00:12:40: bit of an arrogance.

00:12:41: if I were to say no, you have to watch it like this.

00:12:44: This is what we're trying to do and that's the ambiguity.

00:13:06: Oh wait a second, I never thought about that.

00:13:11: But thats quite

00:13:23: interesting!
